Professional Standards
The Order of Friars Minor, also known as the Franciscan
Friars, is committed to the Catholic Church’s protocols for
Integrity in Ministry. The Order takes seriously any
complaints against accepted professional standards and any
allegations of abuse by friars. The Order supports the
Towards Healing program which sets out the principles that
form the basis of the Church’s response to complaints of
abuse and the procedures to be followed in responding to
individual complaints. Anyone alleging abuse in a Franciscan
Friars’ establishment in Australia is urged to contact their
local Professional Standards Office. Contact details are
listed in the Towards Healing document which can be found in
the Professional Standards link at
www.catholic.org.au
In New Zealand, The Path to Healing program provides
the principles and procedures for responding to allegations
of abuse by clergy and religious. See
