Franciscan Friars, Province of the Holy Spirit

Welcome to the web site for the Franciscan Province of the Holy Spirit which encompasses the four nations of Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. Our Province is a small part of a worldwide movement of Franciscan women and men filled with a passion for the Gospel, keeping the spirit of St Francis of Assisi alive all over the world.

In the Holy Spirit Province, the friars are involved in a variety of works - some traditional, some new - all of which try to respond to the changing needs in the church and society. We friars can be found as parish priests, teachers and chaplains. We care for the sick and aged, the lonely and refugees. We are involved with agencies which protect our environment, assist families in trouble and give support to disadvantaged youth on the streets. We are represented in every state of Australia, in New Zealand, East Malaysia, Singapore and beyond. Some Australian Franciscans are working as missionaries in Papua New Guinea and in the Holy Land.

The Franciscan way of life is not primarily about what we do but rather how we do our work, how we live together as brothers in community and how we share generously, simply and practically the Good News of Jesus with others. We hope that this site will help you to learn about the spirituality, life and work of St Francis and about those who follow him today.
