COMINGS AND GOINGS (May 2003)

* The friars are holding a GENERAL CHAPTER OF THE ORDER, in Assisi from 25 May through to 21 June. The Provincial Minister, Stephen Bliss ofm will be attending, together with Peter Michael ofm representing the South Asia, Australia, Oceania region..

* While the Provincial is away he will visit Maurice Carmody ofm who is lecturing in Church History at the Antonianium University in Rome, as well as Paul Rout ofm on the faculty at the University of London, and John Soh ofm who is studying at the Franciscan Study Centre, Canterbury, U.K.

*Fr. Paul Smith ofm Vicar Provincial is currently attending the Franciscan Challenge course conducted by the Irish Friars in Rome and Assisi

*The new church of St. Therese at Mangare East (Auckland) was dedicated at a special liturgy on 18 May. Ken Cafe ofm Parish Priest has been the creative force behind this project.

*The novices, William Lee, Colin Teo, Justin Lim and Derrick Yap have completed the first stage of their novitiate year at the Novitiate, "Maryfields" Campbelltown (NSW) - they spent some time recently at the Province's House of Prayer, "Francis Haven", Guildford, central Victoria.

*Fr. Campion Murray ofm is in the U.K attending a meeting at Canterbury that is planning a second volume of the Early Documents on Saint Clare. This year the franciscan family celebrates the 750th anniversary of Clare's death and the Papal approval of her Rule.

*Patrick Hennigan's book, "A Franciscan Journey to Compostela" was launched last month, together with an exhibition of his new drawings- he moves shortly to the Star of the Sea Friary, Waverley (Sydney)

* Francis Erni ofm comes to the end of the completion of his doctoral thesis at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago (USA)- he will return to Auckland when the requirements for the doctorate are completed.

*The Parish Committee of the Province is planning a gathering of pastors, pastoral associates and school principles in the Franciscan parishes of Australia and New Zealand

* As part of the celebrations concerning the 750th anniversary of the death of Saint Clare of Assisi a specially selected wine is being launched in June. Vintaged from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Taylor's vineyards of the Clare valley, it promises to be very rewarding drop!
