Introduction

This translation of the Sermons of St Bonaventure on the Blessed Virgin Mary is based on the edition of the Sermons in the Quaracchi edition of the works of Bonventure. The Bible used in the translation is the Douay Rheims Bible and for the sake of consistency the names of the books and the proper names are reproduced as found in that Bible. In general the texts of the Bible have been left as they are in this translation except for changing such words as ‘thee’ and ‘hast’ into their modern equivalents.

 The headings in the text that are on the left margin have been added on the basis of the headings in the margins of the Quaracchi edition. The footnotes are translated from the Quaracchi edition.

Inclusive language has not been used for the quotations from the Douay Rheims Bible but, as far as was judged possible, it has been used in the text of the sermons.
