of the 800th Anniversary of the Canticle of the Creatures
with a conversation with Dr Darleen Pryds PhD.
In 1225 St Francis of Assisi composed the hymn of praise and thanksgiving which would resonate through the ages. Known as the ‘Canticle of the Creatures’, it celebrates the beauty of creation and the mystery of life.
This year marks the 800th anniversary of the canticle. Composed between 1225 and 1226, the last year of Francis’ life; the canticle begins with the natural world as a reason to praise God.
The 2025 Franciscan Centenary will be dedicated to celebrations and reflections on the Canticle of the Creatures.
