Ignite Conference 2024 – Brisbane and Sydney

The Franciscan Friars were represented at the Ignite Conference 2024 in Brisbane and Sydney by Gerald Tan, John Nguyen, Joseph McKay and Harry Chan.

Praise and Worship, Mass, Reconciliation, Adoration, testimonies, and over 120 keynote talks and workshops helped young people and children to grow in their faith.

Gerald and Harry gave a workshop on the ‘800th Anniversary of St Francis’. It was certainly a good opportunity to promote Franciscan spirituality and vocation.

FSA National Conference

– 21-23 August 2024

Franciscan Schools Australia (FSA) gathered in Brisbane in August to explore and weave together the story of the oldest living culture, 2,000 years of Christianity, the 800-year-old Franciscan tradition and their own school stories as they took a look in their own backyard.

The presenters were wonderfully varied with Fr Paul Rout OFM providing Franciscan discourse. Wakka Wakka woman Brooke Prentis acknowledged country, with a message to listen deeply. She said, “If we care for country then country will care for you.” Social psychologist and researcher Hugh Mackay explained how the social trends over the last 50 years have shaped Australia today.

Adj Professor Susan Pascoe provided information about the Australian Church’s synodal journey and the implications for schools who carry the Franciscan charism.

Franciscan Schools Australia are planning to gather again in 2026.
